Thank you to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

|

There are a lot of real charities in Cincinnati that need all the community support they can get. We could buy advertising for their fundraisers or show up to hand out flyers but we prefer to really help.

One local charity that recently needed assistance is the Tri State Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Yesterday they held an amazing event downtown at the ChemEd building and afterwards needed someone to move 30 spinning bikes.

We truly appreciate that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society trusted us to be their movers.

While we move bikes for our moving customers all the time, a spinning bike is about 100lbs heavier because of the sturdier frame and large weight that replaces the front wheel. That means we moved almost 2 tons of bikes in just under 3 hours!

Still our team was ready to help such a great cause. In fact we were so excited we forgot to take pictures but as soon as we get some from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society we will post them.

Until then, please go to http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_chap and do what you can to help such a great cause.

UHauls new UBox seen for 1st time

|

UHaul's new UBox is basically a plywood crate about the size of a walk in closet. As stated its a moving container made out of plywood but they do cover it in a very thick vinyl covering that you can zip closed.

Who would store their valuables in a plywood storage container wrapped in vinyl?

Well evidently not many people move with them. They have been in the Cincinnati about a year and we have not witnessed a single moving customer actually use one. We have heard a lot about these from the UHaul employees but only seen them in UHaul's parking lot

That is until today.

UHaul UBox Truck
We passed it on the way to unload a moving truck and on our way back it was still there. So we decided to stop and take a few pictures. Now we have no idea why a state highway patrolman had it sitting on the side of the highway for so long but we thought that in itself is pretty funny.

Sorry about the blurriness of some of the pics, we had just gotten done moving in the snow and were to cold to pay that much attention.

Here is a picture of the UBox container from a different angle

Cincinnati Snow Emergencies and Moving

|

You have probably been hearing a lot about what snow emergencies mean. Many of our moving customers have asked us what that means. Here is a brief explanation.

Level 1: The roads are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow, roads are icy and drivers are warned to be cautious. There is no parking on the street.

Level 2: Most  roads are hazardous, only those who feel it is absolutely necessary should be driving Drivers are encouraged to call their employers to make sure  that they need to report to work before going out. There is no parking on the street.

Level 3: This means all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is an emergency. Anyone caught traveling without a really good reason may subject be arrested. There is no parking on the street.

What a snow emergency means for your move?

  • We cannot work in a Level 2  or 3 Snow Emergency.
  • There is no street parking allowed during any snow emergency. The moving truck is required by law to be parked completely off the street.
  • Your driveway and walkways needs to be clear of snow and ice.
  • There should be room for the moving truck to be parked and still allow space for snow plows to pass on the street
  • If needed, there should be room for the moving truck to turn around without restriction or backing onto snow/ice.
Keep in mind, moving trucks get scuk much easier than you may believe and are not easy to pull out of the snow.

How far in advance should you schedule your move?

|

Our customers often ask us "How far in advance do I need to book a moving company?"

The truth is, as soon as you possibly can. Our schedule, and that of most movers, fills up based on a number of factors. Here are a few factors to consider when scheduling your move.

  • UHaul does not allow you to pick up your truck on your schedule. On busy days UHaul rentals are for 4-8 hours (NOT A FULL DAY). Thir current business practice is to call you the night before and tell you when and where to pick your truck up. This can be anywhere is a 20 mile radius at anytime between 7am and 7pm. If you are renting a truck, choose a better company like Penske or Budget.
  • The last week is always the busiest of the month.
  • If the month ends on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday plan your move well in advance.
  • The time of the year makes a big difference. Colder weather means less people moving.
  • Weather also is a factor. Often moving companies get busier when the weather is really hot or cold.
  • When do the local schools and colleges let out? Most movers see an increase in business the few weeks after schools let out for summer break and then again a few weeks before they go back in session.
  • Some moving companies (not 4WeHelp Cincinnati Movers) charge different rates for different days or times of year.
  • Waiting until the last minute to schedule your movers may mean the only moving help available is the one nobody else wanted.
